Heel Pain
There are huge forces present at the heel on heel strike. The most common causes of heel pain are plantar fasciitis (bottom of the heel) and Achilles tendinitis (back of the heel).
Causes of heel pain also include:
- Achilles tendinitis
- Achilles tendon rupture
- Bursitis (joint inflammation)
- Haglands deformity
- Plantar fasciitis
- Peripheral neuropathy
- Tarsal tunnel syndrome
- Heel spur
- Stress fracture
- Rheumatoid arthritis
Pain in the Forefoot
Pain in the ball of the foot can be very disabling. There is a large proportion of stress placed on the ball of the foot and pain is usually due to unsupported loading of the area.
Common forefoot complaints include:
- Sesamoiditis
- Capsulitis
- Bursitis
- Neuroma
- Stress fracture
When To See Your Podiatrist
- See your podiatrist immediately if you have:
- Severe pain and swelling near your heel
- Inability to bend your foot downward, rise on your toes or walk normally
- Heel pain with fever, numbness or tingling in your heel
- Severe heel pain immediately after injury

- Rest

- Compression
- Elevation
- Appropriate footwear
- Over the counter pain medication
